About the Department

Planning discipline is a comprehensive field that seeks to formulate creative solutions on subjects such as land use, transformation of physical environment, formation of social relationships, transportation and more on multiple scales, ranging from regional to urban design level. 


The education in the department is composed of theoretical and studio courses. The goal of BTU Urban and Regional Planning (URP) is to nurture graduates into experts with analytical outlook who can lead discussions on urban and regional development and operate successfully in teams.


The graduates find employment in variety of organizations. Primary employment opportunities exist in public sector organizations such as ministries on urbanization, regional development, industry, transportation, culture, tourism as well as local government bodies such as municipalities or regional development agencies. Employment opportunities in the private sector constitute private urban and regional planning offices, architectural design offices and real estate companies. Lastly, there are also wide range of non-governmental organizations who are specialized in areas ranging from sustainability, development, urbanization, transportation or migration and make use of urban and regional planning graduates' expertise.
